Dr. Afzal earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Pakistan. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and his cardiovascular medicine fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He then completed his cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Afzal is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, Heart Rhythm Society, The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Afzal has numerous publications, honors and awards.
